Branching Out
Branching out:
How Makeup By Coco Cat is Changing
I originally started this blog as a way to grow my skills as both a makeup artist and a writer. It has become an way for me to express myself, help others, and tap into my abilities as a creator. With the start of school, I sort of lost my vision. I became disorganized, I disconnected from my creativity, I fell into a pit. I felt lost and overwhelmed. Over the weekend, I took some time to regain myself and my goal for this blog. I brainstormed ways to improve the quality of my content, the relationships I build with my following, and the way I live as an online creator as well as a student. This post will detail my core values, how I plan on expressing them, and what is going to change.
I value originality, genuine connections, and passion
I write this blog and create these videos not to make money or gain personal fame, but rather to grow and help others in a journey to a healthy lifestyle both physically and emotionally. I write this blog to create valuable and original content for you to enjoy. I do this because it is a passion, and not for anything else. I hope to work side by side with you to gain ideas for what you want to see, read and watch. I want people to enjoy getting the notifications for my videos and posts. In an attempt to learn what exactly you are looking to view, I will be holding weekly polls on my Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, and blog side bar, where you can vote on either what kind of video you want to see, or a choice of a couple video/post ideas.
I want to pursue artistry through my makeup.
I have been inspired by many online creators who I will be crediting below, who have reminded me that makeup is all about looking good. Makeup is art. I am going to be creating more and more looks to be posted on my social media that are more artistic and less normative. I am hoping to incorporate all of the elements I learned in my artistic education to create makeup looks that are not just pretty, but also moving and representative of real life concepts. I want to capture and evoke emotions through expression in makeup. This change will be observed through movement from conventional makeup trends, to those which are less common and more eccentric or experimental.
I am looking to focus more on skin care and over all wellness than makeup.
Through these past couple months, I discovered that while I do have a passion for makeup its not my central focus. The title of my blog is a bit misleading because while I will be continuing to create makeup looks, they aren't exactly what people are looking for when they think "makeup." I have a huge focus on putting your body first. Food, exercise and skin care all come before makeup. I want to create a space that expresses that. I want to create content that will enrich people's lives and provide them with valuable insight. More and more of the content you will be seeing from me will be pertaining to lifestyle and wellbeing. Working to reflect that vision, I will be changing the name of my blog and other social media channels. This space has outgrown the name Makeup By Coco Cat. It has provided me a great name and an branding, but I feel that it is time to mature as a channel and create a new name that truly reflects this blog and myself.
Last but not least, here are some of the creators who have inspired me to follow my heart and create what inspires me and follow my heart.
IAMKARENO
Karen taught me that being a good person comes before being a good influencer. If you want to create content that inspires you and others it has to come from the heart. That way, your unique style can shine through in everything you create. She taught me not to compare myself to others because not only can it make you jealous, but it harms you. It keeps you from being who you want to be. Overall, Karen has taught me to be myself and always stay grateful throughout my journey.
Ivan Lam
Ivan is a precious person and we must support him at all costs. He has taught me to be proud of where I came from, how much I have grown, and all the struggles I have overcome. Ivan truly cares for his followers and responds to as many of them as he can with genuine responses. I think my personal favorite thing about Ivan is that he is such a heartfelt person and really wants to teach and inspire people.
Divina Muse
Divina creates art. Beautiful, raw, emotional art. She pours so much of herself into the looks she creates and I am absolutely in awe of her talent. Not only is her technique beautiful, but she also has a lot of well thought out meaning behind her work. It is not just beautiful, but powerful and moving as well. I would highly recommend that you check out her SPEAK NO EVIL/SEE NO EVIL/HEAR NO EVIL work on her instagram @divinamuse
Thank you so much for reading this blog and continuing to support me in all my ventures and changes. Cheers to all our upcoming adventures.
Love,
Chloe
