DIY Lip Scrub

Hello!

The days are getting chilly and winter winds are picking up. Irritated, dry wind whipped lips are one of winters worse nightmares! In an attempt to combat these dry winters, I use a lip exfoliator every morning when I wash my face, it leaves my lips feeling silky smooth and liquid lipstick glides on just perfectly. Lip scrubs come in many different flavors and can have many different uses, I am going to share with you three different recipes. They each do something a little different!

Cinnamon Coffee Plumping Lip Scrub

    You will need:
  • A small container
  • A mixing bowl
  • 3 TBS sugar (bigger grain the better)
  • 1 TSP ground coffee
  • 1/2 TSP cinnamon
  • 2 TBS coconut oil
Start by adding the sugar, cinnamon, and coffee into the bowl and mix them together. Once the mixture is evenly distributed, add in the two tablespoons of coconut oil. DO NOT melt the coconut oil into a liquid! It will melt the sugar and the scrub will be virtually useless. You can warm the coconut oil until it's a paste but do not let it become a liquid. Fold until combined and then scoop into the small storage container.

This lip scrub is infused with caffeine which will plump up your lips, especially when combined with the plumping effects of the cinnamon. It's perfect to use right before you apply some matte liquid liquid for a girl's night out. It is with noting that you should avoid this specific lip scrub if your lips are experiencing any irritation or have small cuts on them. The cinnamon may inflame them.

Traditional Honey Lip Scrub

     You will need:
  • A small container
  • A mixing bowl
  • 3 TBS sugar
  • 2 TSP honey
  • 2 TBS coconut oil
  • a drop of vanilla
Mix the coconut oil and honey in the mixing bowl, and then fold in the sugar. Again, DO NOT heat the coconut oil. It should be very thick. Take care to not mix the scrub too much because the sugar will dissolve.

This is a very simple lip scrub, its perfect for mildly irritated lips. The honey is quite mild and will act as a disinfectant for small little cuts or irritation and the vanilla smells so delicious. This scrub is great for everyday use because it works solely as an exfoliant and has no other properties.

Gingerbread Lip Scrub

    You will need:
  • 1TSP molasses
  • 2 TBS coconut oil
  • 1 TSP powdered ginger (not fresh, the kind from your spice cabinet)
  • 1 TSP cinnamon
  • 1/4 TSP nutmeg
  • 1 TBS brown sugar
  • 1/2 TSP vanilla extract
  • a small airtight jar
  • a mixing bowl
Mix all the spices plus your brown sugar together in your mixing bowl. Add the molasses, softened but not liquefied coconut oil and vanilla extract to the bowl and fold to combine. Take care to not let the sugar dissolve. Scoop your finished product into the small storage container and store for up to a month!

This lip scrub is such a delicious holiday treat and really puts me in the Christmas spirit when I use it each morning. The combination of all these warm spices make for a wonderful yet light plumping effect. It is a bit milder than the Cinnamon Coffee Scrub which means people with sensitive skin may not have as much trouble with this particular scrub. Enjoy it this December or all year round!
