I Tried The "Jamsu" Makeup Trend
Hello!
A few weeks back, a friend of mine sent me an article claiming that if you covered your face in baby powder and dipped it in cold water, your makeup would last all day. Originating in South Korea, the method is rumored to give you a flawlessly matte complexion that lasts all day. The makeup setting method is called "jamsu" (잠수) which roughly translates to "submerge" or "dive" from Korean.
Here are the instructions I got from Cosmo. ( http://www.cosmopolitan.com/style-beauty/a8583248/korean-beauty-trend-dunking-head-in-water/ )

- Start with your everyday skincare routine and top it off with your foundation
- Completely cover your face with baby powder
- Dunk your face in cold water for 15-30 seconds (the dryer your skin tends to be, the shorter amount of time you should keep your face under the water)
- Pat your face dry with a towel
I decided to try it because my face tends to look oily towards the end of the day and I hadn't yet found a way to fix it. Choosing a day where I knew my makeup was not going to hold up, I tried to the jamsu method............and here is where I went wrong.
The article I was looking at showed the woman covering her face with so much baby powder that she looked like someone has thrown a flour bag at her face, so naturally I did the same. This did not work. 😂 When I took my face out of the water, it has white powder streaks ALL over it. I thought, "It's fine I'll just brush them off." NOPE! they were stuck to my face, even after I scrubbed them with a towel. However, my makeup did last all day and I did not get shiny.
Determined to give the method a second chance on another day, I covered my face with significantly less powder and dunked again. It was amazing! I didn't look powdery, my face was not itchy or dry, and my makeup lasted all day even through a two hour volleyball practice. Now, I have compiled a list of tips for you so that you can skip powdery and streaky and go straight to matte and flawless!
Coco's Jamsu Instructions:
- Go through your normal skin care regimen, and don't forget moisturizer. This process can dry out your face.
- Apply primer, concealer, foundation, contour and blush. IMPORTANT: The one thing that no one told me was that you have to put your blush and contour on before covering your face in baby powder because nothing sticks to your face after the dunk.
- Take a sponge and dip it in baby powder, then apply to face. Everyone else seemed to be laying it on in a way similar to "baking" with setting powder, but the method I found to work best is to press the powder into your foundation so that it sinks in.
- Once you have covered your whole face with baby powder, fill a bowl big enough to fit your face with water and ice. TIP: the colder the water, the better your makeup seems to set
- Dunk your face for 15 seconds if you have dry skin, and 30 seconds for oily skin.
- Pat down face with a towel
- You have now set your foundation and can do your eye makeup. Ta-da!
Important things to remember are that you have to cover your whole face with powder, you have to do your eye makeup AFTER the setting process, and if your face looks too pale for your body try using a foundation that is a shade darker than you would usually wear so that it evens out after the powder process. That is it! Let me know how it works for you!
Love,
Coco Cat
